Notes on the Kingdom - Lessons for My Children
Beware of Spider's Webs and Adder's Eggs
"They hatch adder's eggs and weave the spider's web;he who eats of their eggs dies, and from that which is crushed a snake breaks forth."
The spider spins its web in order to capture its prey. This is the essence of religion: It is spun (fabricated) by man, not by God. The spider's webs are the religious constructions of man, the constructions of the flesh. They are the product of men building according to the flesh and not according to the Spirit of God.
Many so-called "churches" or "fellowships" have become spiritual spider's webs. In the same way as the spider, men capture and retain (imprison) souls in their false fabrications ("fellowships"). The liberty of the Spirit of the Lord (2 Corinthians 3:17) is gone.
In such places, as with a natural spider's web, the light of the sun does not penetrate clearly anymore. It is filtered by the spun web. While particles of light come through, which means that there is some degree of light and truth in the group, the light does not shine in fully or directly any more. God's light, who He is and His purposes, gets filtered out by man. The light becomes dim and diffuse. While we should all behold the glory of the Lord with unveiled faces (2 Corinthians 3:18), when caught in a spider's web we see the light only through a man-imposed veil.
The adder's eggs are thoughts and doctrines that are not from God. They are false reasonings that satan wishes to instill into God's children. Satan is the snake that comes out of the crushed egg. If we eat these eggs, which means that we receive and accept false words and teachings, they will produce spiritual death in and around us. We must refuse adder's eggs, because the essence of the adder's egg is a lie that leads to death.
Of course, many adder's eggs come in the form of supposedly "Biblical" teachings. Even the devil used Scripture to tempt the Lord in the desert! We must refuse that which is "another gospel", even any aspect foreign to the true gospel of Jesus Christ (Galatians 1:8+9).
The Lord warns us not to build according to man, but according to the Spirit, and to beware of false thoughts and doctrines that destroy the life that Jesus has purchased for us. For this, we need the discernment of what is truly of God and what is not. May those who are spiritual appraise all things (1 Corinthians 2:15).
